postings from an academic mercenary

I was just skyping with me little two-year old daughter Helena (she is in Berlin at this moment) and reflecting on contemporary academic life. When you look out onto the Charles River while having a discussion on Benkler's latest book all is wonderful, but when Helena holds up her new doll to the computer screen to show you (and Mom forgot the webcam in Mexico) you feel sad.
